Three St. Louis High School students and one Ithaca High School student placed in the top 10 in their categories at the Business Professionals of America National Leadership Conference in Dallas, Texas this week.
Adam Lawhorne placed sixth in Computer Network Technology (and 11th in Web Design).
Rachael Lovejoy placed sixth in Database Application (and 11th in Advanced Spreadsheet).
Breck Hodges placed eighth in Fundamental Spreadsheets.
Kyle Sparks of Ithaca High School travelled with the St. Louis contingent and placed fourth in Payroll Accounting.
All who finished in the top 10 were recognized on stage and given a medal.
Other St. Louis students who competed at nationals are Alex Lawhorne, Allyse March, Joe Nash, Elizabeth VanderHart and Jenna Jewell
March, Alex Lawhorne, Elizabeth VanderHart and Jenna Jewell placed thirteenth in Broadcast News Production Team.
The National Leadership Conference hosted 5,500 students representing 25 states.
“The skills that students learn through participating in a variety of business experiences are beneficial and will help prepare them for a career in the workforce,” said chapter advisors, Andrea Biehl, Ben Goward, and Terri Reeves in a press release.
Business Professionals of America is a national organization for high school, college, and middle school students preparing for careers in business and information technology. The organization’s activities and programs complement classroom instruction by giving students practical experience through application of the skills learned at school.
