After a rough week in which they lost three games, the St. Louis boys and girls basketball teams rebounded against Morrice Tuesday as the Christmas break begins.
Girls game: St Louis 46, Morrice 39
The lady Sharks travelled 61 miles to Morrice and outscored the Orioles in three of the four periods, thanks to the efforts of Natalee Hoyt (20 points, 8 rebounds), Josie Schrot (12 points) and Kerregan Wilson (8 points). Morrice was led by Aubrey Rogers (17 points)
The lady Sharks go into the Christmas break with a 5-2 record, as does Morrice.
Boys game: St. Louis 48, Morrice 38
The Sharks got off to a good start in the last home game of 2022, outscoring the Orioles 27-14 in the first half. They increased their lead by four in the third period but gave up 16 while scoring just 9 in the fourth period.
The Sharks were led by Thomas Zacharko (16 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals), Wisdom Zanquo (14 points, 4 assists) and Josh Dew (9 rebounds, 3 assists, 5 steals). The Sharks record stands at 2-2. Morrice falls to 1-5.
Enrollment advantage: St. Louis
St. Louis reported 321 high school enrollment in the 2021-22 school year. Morrice reported 217.
Looking ahead
The boys team returns to action Jan. 3 with a road game at Farwell. Both girls and boys teams visit Valley Lutheran in Saginaw on Jan. 6.
